ATL #7 is known for its production of sclerota, often referred to as "truffles," in addition to mushrooms. Previously, ATL #7 has been marketed as a variant of P. galindoi, a species recognized for its strong psychoactive properties and traditional use in spiritual practices among the Mazatec people of southern Mexico.

Key characteristics of ATL #7 include a small, flat to slightly convex cap that remains dry, except in damp conditions. Its gills are attached to the stem, although sometimes only barely so. The stem is long and slender, occasionally featuring remnants of a partial veil, and it exhibits a characteristic blue-green bruising when handled.
